
Christina Skarpari
Artistic director of Xarkis’ projectsChristina Skarpari is a designer, researcher and artistic director of Xarkis’ projects. Her practice centres on socially responsive design, community arts, visual communication and creative writing. From 2013, she has founded Xarkis NGO where she is responsible for the organisation’s creative direction, design and production of cultural projects. She first realised Xarkis Festival, during her MA in Communication Design at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London (2012-2014).
Beyond Xarkis, she is a member of Phytorio Visual Arts association, and has participated in various exhibitions and editions such as Integrating Knowledge at Somerset House, London (2013), The Written Stuff-Over-exposed Issue, London (2013), Climbing the Mountain at COLLABO-NATION, The Cyprus Dossier, Nicosia (2014), Unique Print Exhibition at Camden Image Gallery, London (2014), Also at Lethaby Gallery, London (2014), Bird, OWKzine, Limassol (2016) Spotlight of the Doctoral Platform, London (2018), Topophilia, in the publication of Phaneromenis 70, Bereggaria, Apothikes Papadaki, Limassol, (2019), Admin Blues and Brexit in the literary journal Armarolla, Nicosia (2019). She represented Cyprus in the international European Young Heritage Professionals Forum in Zadar, Croatia organised by UNESCO (2019). She was also selected as an artist in residence in Phytorio with the project Exotic Birds (2020), and worked as a community engagement expert in Phygital collaborating with UNRF (2020). In academia she holds an AHRC Techne studentship for her ongoing practice-based research degree (Doctor of Philosophy – PhD) at Central Saint Martins. In parallel, she works at Central Saint Martins and London College of Communication as an Associate Lecturer.
