[read more=”Read more” less=”Read less”]
Xarkis Festival moved this year to the picturesque village of Lofou and opened its doors for the audience a third year round. This year Xarkis “grew” and included a more diverse schedule with educational workshops, presentations, performances and music celebration. This creative Festivity began from 6th of July with specialized workshops, held in the centre of the village and led up until the launch of the 3rd Xarkis Festival from 10-12th of July 2015.
The aim of the festival is to bring to visitors an authentic experience of Cypriot culture, while also engaging in a dialogue about social sustainability.
In the context of the festival, different aspects of local and folk culture blend harmoniously with aspects of modern culture. The central idea of the festival is that the “fermentation” which happens in the village can constitute a model for rejuvenation and creative community development.
On a macro level however, Xarkis Festival may constitute ground for innovative ideas which can be socially useful. These activities were realised in a festive atmosphere, the music event of the Festival being the climax of this celebration.
Examples of actions include socially collecting oral narratives of our shared past, or the organisation of interdisciplinary workshops with the collaboration of local producers and contemporary designers, that have the capacity to bring people from different generations and backgrounds together.
Special thanks to Lofou’s continuous support and hospitality!
