A KEY ASPECT OF THE RESIDENCY INVOLVES IMMERSING OURSELVES IN A HYPER LOCAL SETTING

Xarkis Festival assumes its shape through the Xarkis Multi-Residency program (est. 2016) that precedes it. Just like the Festival, the Residency is characterised by a nomadic structure. Here, artists in residence come together with our team in a communal setting and are connected with local and former residents of the selected area. A key aspect of the residency involves immersing ourselves in a hyper-local setting. Here, artists collaborate on practice-based enquiries informed by our theme, to generate site-specific projects in ways that make use of skills, desires and resources of the persons involved and the unique characteristics of the regions we temporarily inhabit.

We have implemented seven nomadic Xarkis Multi-Residency editions in the villages of Lofou, Koilani, Polystipos, Lympia and Agros, (2016-2022) and four related group exhibitions at Point Centre for Contemporary Art (2015-2019).

Over the last 10 years we have hosted more than 200 artists, and each year the residency hosts between 20-35 artists depending on our capacity and available funding.
